Itchy heel

Sometime back, there was a series of postings on various foot forums about a mysterious, deep itching in the heel, usually to one side or the other. I recently had this problem and found a remedy, but the original postings were so long ago that I can no longer post replies, so here it is anew.

Since this is said to be a likely "neurological problem", I guessed that was another term for nerve inflammation. Based on this, in my case, the cure was simple -- a couple of ibuprofen, two or three times a day for a few days. This treatment apparently reduced the inflammation enough to do the trick. That helped with sleeping, which probably helped healing.

In my case, the likely cause was plain old mechanical damage to nerves at the heel from habitually crossing my feet under the chair and wiggling a foot.

I suppose in some cases, this heel itch thing could be a prelude to something serious, for which a visit to a neurologist is warranted, but I'd first try the simple, cheap, easy approach.

If you are tempted to use higher or more frequent doses, read the warnings first about ibuprofen dosage and frequency.
